As the largest textile industry country in the world, China's textile industry "big but not strong" situation is particularly prominent in the context of the international financial crisis. Recently, the China Textile Industry Federation (hereinafter referred to as "China Textile Federation") issued the "China Garment and Home Textile Independent Brand Development Report" under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which made a deep investigation and Analysis on the construction of China's garment and home textile industry's independent brand.

Has become the world's first producer, consumer and exporter

Textile industry is a traditional pillar industry and an important livelihood industry in China. It is also an industry with obvious international competitive advantages. At present, China has the largest textile industry system and the most complete industrial chain in the world. It is the first producer, consumer and exporter of textiles and garments in the world.

According to public data, in 2011, China's textile industry reached 43.1 million tons of fiber processing, accounting for 54% of the world's total (25% in 2000); textile and apparel exports totaled 254.123 billion US dollars, accounting for 34% of the world's total.

The profit of the textile industry is also rising year by year. According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, the total profit of textile enterprises above the national scale reached 29.56 billion yuan in 2011, an increase of 25.94% over the same period last year.

Moreover, with the rapid development of recent years, the industrial structure of China's textile industry has also been significantly optimized. In 2011, the proportion of fiber consumption of clothing, household and industrial end products has been adjusted to 49:30:21, which continues to close to the advanced level of developed countries. At the same time, regional restructuring has been steadily promoted, and investment in the central and western regions has achieved rapid growth.

Domestic market growth is still an important support for the growth of China's textile industry. In 2011, the domestic sales value of textile enterprises above the scale increased by 29.5% year-on-year, 14.2 percentage points higher than the export delivery value of the same period, and the proportion of domestic sales value to sales value reached 82.9%, which increased by 1.7 percentage points compared with 2010.

However, due to the impact of the international financial crisis, China's textile industry encountered difficulties in 2012, especially in terms of exports, encountered greater resistance.

Increased trade frictions in the context of financial crisis

Since this year, the export of China's textile and apparel industry has witnessed zero or negative growth, and the textile industry is now facing multiple difficulties at home and abroad.

Not long ago, another report issued by the Statistics Center of China Textile Federation said that in the first half of this year, China's textile and apparel exports remained the main goal of Global trade protection. New technical barriers to trade were introduced in Europe, America and other countries, which seriously affected the export of China's textile and apparel products.

Since this year, the United States government has introduced a number of trade protection measures, including the establishment of a cross-sectoral trade enforcement center, the enforcement of third-party testing and certification of children's products, and the implementation of new standards for lead content in children's products imported into the United States, according to the report of the China Textile Federation. Mexico has also revised its textile and clothing labelling standards, and the new EU regulations on textile labelling have been formally implemented since May. The promulgation of these standards and regulations makes China's textile and apparel exports face greater cost pressures and trade risks.

In the first half of this year, 924 notifications were issued by the European Union Rapid Notification System for Non-edible Consumer Goods, an increase of 54% over the same period last year. Among them, 589 notifications were issued to China, accounting for 63.74% of the global notifications, an increase of 90.61% over the same period last year; 122 notifications were issued to textile and garment products imported from China, accounting for 20.71% of the total notifications to China, an increase of 121.82% over the same period last year.

Statistics show that in May and June this year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued 58 recall notices for imported products, of which 7 were for textile and apparel products imported from China, nearly double the same period last year.

In the second half of the year, the international trade environment faced by China's textile and apparel exports has become more tense, and international trade friction has continued to intensify.

The Construction of Independent Brand Is Urgent

Faced with the complex international and domestic situation, some insiders said that the world and China's economy have entered a period of deep adjustment and transformation. China's textile industry basically farewell to the high-speed growth environment, and its dependence on brands will become more obvious.

In this report, the China Textile Federation pointed out that "China's textile industry is still in the middle and low end of the value chain in the international industrial division of labor, and the lag of independent brand building is one of the main characteristics of"big but not strong". Implementing brand strategy is an important way for China's textile industry to transform its development mode and an inevitable choice for realizing a strong textile country.

The development of independent brands in China's textile industry has gone through a process from scratch. Since the 1980s, China's apparel and textile enterprises began to undertake international industrial transfer, and enterprises such as Fir, Shan and Romon began to have brand awareness. After 1991, a large number of garment and textile enterprises with initial scale and strength began to create and cultivate their own brands, and the construction of their own brands in China's textile industry has entered a growth period. In the 21st century, the independent brand of China's textile industry enterprises has entered the period of innovation and development. The brand values of industries and enterprises have become increasingly clear. The construction of brand system has been put on the agenda. The construction of industrial inheritance and innovation system has achieved remarkable results.

At present, China's garment industry has a large number of independent brands, including more than 2000 active brands, 87 Chinese famous brands and 262 Chinese well-known trademarks.
